Dr. Parla S Jayagopal BAMS, MD (Ayurveda), MAOM (C) ("Dr. Jay") received his Bachelor's Degree in Ayurvedic medicine and surgery (BAMS) after completing five and a half years of training from Bangalore University. He also pursued three years of education to receive a Master's degree in Ayurvedic herbology from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore.

About Kristin Meekhof

Kristin A. Meekhof graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Kalamazoo College with a major in psychology. She completed the clinical Master in Social Work program at the University of Michigan, and is a licensed social worker. In 2007, when Kristin Meekhof was 33, her husband (a teacher and veteran) of four years was diagnosed with advanced adrenal cancer. Approximately eight weeks later, he died.

Ms. Meekhof was born in S. Korea, and left on the street. She was found by a passerby, and four months later adopted by her parents. About two weeks shy of her fifth birthday, Ms. Meekhof’s father, James Vande Vusse died of cancer. He had battled cancer. Kristin is a social worker, focusing on child's rights and is the author of A Widow's Guide to Healing. When Ms. Meekhof is not writing she enjoys traveling, training for half- marathons, and eating chocolate chip cookies.

Since switching to the Beauty Detox lifestyle last year, I have lost 50 pounds and have become so much healthier and happier! My question is about cellulite. I've had cellulite for years and even after losing all the weight, it has never went away. It's actually more noticeable now. I drink tons of water throughout the day, do toning exercises daily, yoga... I've even just started the dry brushing method. Nothing is helping it. Is there something that you recommend to help stubborn cellulite?

Is there a method to the timing of taking supplements successfully? I try to get a majority of the nutrients from food, but also take supplements like probiotics, a wellness formula, vitamin b, vitamin C, vitamin D, cloves, milk thistle and so on, plus diatomaceous earth, blackstrap molasses, collagen, etc. Most directions either say take on an empty stomach or with meals, but do they counteract one another if taken at the same time or certain times of the day?

I am an endurance athlete (run lots of half-, full-, ultra-marathons) and personal trainer, so I have a very active lifestyle. I follow a completely plant-based diet and it works amazingly well, and my performance and energy has improved since I started a few years ago. :) The hardest thing I find is food combining though! For example is making my own trailmix/energy bars with nuts & seeds plus dried berries/fruit or snacks of nuts plus fresh berries (i.e. combining fats+proteins+fruits) bad? And smoothies with vegan protein (rice/pea/hemp) and berries? Also what about sticking to higher carb or higher fat as discussed in a previous podcast? At the moment I am probably higher fat and protein, so is it best to focus on veggies as my main carb source? Sorry that is a few questions... Thanks for your help!

I repetitively hear you talk about how dairy does not digest well in the human body, and this logic makes sense to me. However, I also constantly hear about the benefits of Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. for weight loss.  Why is this so widely thought if these foods back us up and do not benefit our digestion? Also, I LOVE yogurt and have acid reflux, and yogurt is the one food that helps settle this. What would you recommend (besides SBO probiotics, because I already take them) to help settle acid reflux that is not dairy but is just as yummy as yogurt?

My partner and my family are diehard meat eaters and it's been so hard to stay on track. I have regularly been drinking hot water with lemon first thing in the morning, sticking to GGS for breakfast and primarily eating fruits, veggies, salads and soups with quinoa for the past several weeks. My concern is that I have continued to experience severe bloating as I've maintained this type of diet. I am avoiding all meat and dairy. Any other recommendations for how to diminish this uncomfortable bloating?

I work in an office so I do not get much physical activity besides your yoga DVD 30 mins to 1 hour a day depending on how much time I have. I do this to stay active. Is Yoga 30 minutes to 1 hour a day enough exercise for extended periods of time (6 months to a year)? Or is cardio at least 30 minutes a day required a day as well to give the body enough daily physical movement requirements?
